Basic guide to using an elevator correctly

Elevators are a familiar part of modern life. The following guidance explains the basic controls and how to use them correctly.

Calling the elevator from a floor

Use the hall-call button for the direction you want to travel. The illuminated button confirms that the system has registered your request. The elevator serves calls according to its current direction and route; wait until the car stops, the doors open fully and the floor is level before entering.

Using the controls inside the car

• Press the numbered button for your destination floor.
• DO / Door Open keeps or opens the doors while the elevator is stopped at a floor.
• DC / Door Close requests the doors to close while stopped.
• Use the intercom or alarm to contact assistance during a power failure or other incident.
• Use an emergency-stop control only in a genuine emergency and where such a control is provided.

The car and landing doors operate automatically. Keep clear while they are closing, supervise children and never attempt to force the doors.
